Community Hero finalist

I was thrilled to attend the Being Asda Awards 2019 in Birmingham where I was nominated for the Community Hero of the Year Award.

I didn't win, but thanks to all customers and colleagues who took time out to nominate me. It was such a surprise to be shortlisted and wonderful to be appreciated that much. I had a brilliant day catching up with many people I'd not seen for ages, plus the cake was tasty! It's amazing to be appreciated this much in a job I absolutely love!– Liz, Asda community champion

Christmas grant to Warrington Deaf Club

Here's Penny from Warrington Deaf Club receiving a cheque for £500 from our Birchwood community colleague Beky. The grant will be spent on two Christmas events for the Deaf Club – a lunch for the elderly and a children's Christmas party where both deaf children and their siblings can enjoy festive fun together with food and a magician and even a visit from Santa!

Hap Hub Lunch Club

Well done to Hapi Hub Lunch Club who have been awarded £50 top-up Grant from the Asda Foundation.Very well done to our former store manager Kev, who helped to make apple and fruit crumble and did the dishes when he helped out a couple of months ago and supported Ames with the lunch club.

Bits & Bobs Craft Club

Many thanks to Birchwood community colleague Beky who kindly presented Bits & Bobs Craft Club with £200. The club is on every Tuesday and is open to anyone who would like to learn crafts and make things, enjoy a cuppa and a chat too. The money going to be used for new equipment and supplies and to get a demonstrator in to teach the group new craft skills.

£26,000 grant for new Salvation Army minibus

Congratulations to the team at Warrington Salvation Army who've picked up a new minibus they bought with a £26,154 donation from the Asda Foundation.

The grant application took two years' work with a further year to build the community bus from scratch – making sure every part of the build was right for our community. Many thanks to my fellow community champions Beky and Cathy for organising the celebration. The award was presented to the Salvation Army team by Jay,  our previous deputy store manager, John, our current deputy, and regional manager Gail. With thousands of people using the Salvation Army Community Centre every month the bus will serve the Warrington community for many years come.
