Manchester stores trial 'inclusive hour' as part of the new Purple Tuesday initiative

Eight of our stores in and around Manchester are trying out an 'inclusive hour' to help customers with autism and dementia and others who struggle with loud noise.

As part of the new Purple Tuesday initiative we'll be turning off displays, tannoy announcements and other noises from 10am-11am every Tuesday at our stores in Ashton Queens Road, Atherton, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Marple, Pendlebury, Rochdale Kingsway and Stockport Belmont. Read more

'Inclusive Hour' pioneer Simon on why he's supporting the Purple Tuesday initiative

I see the launch of Purple Tuesday as a huge step forward towards driving the agenda around inclusivity and making store environments accessible to all. The world is learning that not all disabilities are visible.

Its aim is to provide an inclusive shopping experience for everyone and at Asda we're trialling a dedicated Purple Tuesday 'Inclusive Hour' every week at some of our stores in Kent and Manchester, including the Marple store where I work. We'll be turning off displays, music, tannoy announcements and other noises to help people with autism, dementia and who may otherwise struggle with noise. Read more

Customers and colleagues team up to support the Poppy Appeal at Asda

A big thank you to everyone who's supported the fantastic Royal British Legion collectors who've been raising money for the Poppy Appeal in our stores in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday.

Emma and John Kavanagh, pictured above with our Gosforth store's community champion Michelle Castledine, are two of the collectors who've become familiar friendly faces at our stores across the country. Read more

Our Kent stores are trialling an 'inclusive hour' to help customers on Purple Tuesday

We're trialling an 'inclusive hour' at several of our stores in Kent to help customers with autism and dementia and others who struggle with loud noise as part of the new Purple Tuesday initiative.

We'll be turning off displays, tannoy announcements and other noises from 9-10am every Tuesday at our stores in Ashford, Broadstairs, Folkestone, Gravesend, Kingshill, Maidstone Living, Sittingbourne and Tunbridge Wells after meeting local charities and authorities to discuss what we can do to improve the shopping experience. Little Theo loves Asda so much he wears his special 'work' name badge to school

Six-year-old Theo Cook loved his day 'working' with him mum Charlie and stepdad Phil at our St Leonards-on-Sea store so much that he's been wearing the name badge they made for him when he goes to school.

Theo had put on Charlie's work fleece when they called in at the store one day and, after a colleague suggested he sat at a checkout, Theo tried his hand at scanning shopping before visiting the pizza counter and sitting in one of our delivery vans. Read more
