Support for Safe Haven Cornwall

I was honoured to meet with Jackie and Debs from local transgender support group Safe Haven Cornwall after they requested a donation for a fundraising event. This fabulous group provides advice, support, encouragement, activities and a safe place for people to be themselves. It was set up by Jackie and her husband Paul /Paula started their home has grown over the years with many appreciating the freedom their haven allows them. I very much look forward to helping again and getting to know more about this wonderful support group.

All hands on deck for pirate day

I joined some of my colleagues in dressing as pirates for the day to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.A record-breaking amount of £1,329 was collected during a fundraising day at the store ahead of the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival. The festival will see a total of 66 groups perform in pubs, cafes, hotels and shops in the town.

Woodland group's top-up grant

After I presented a green token cheque to the Friends of Tregoniggie Woodland recently,  I joined in and helped on the plant store of their fundraising Woodland Fair. Thankfully, the weather was good to us that day and it was well supported. Asda offered to match fund what they raised on the stall that day and they other day Euan McPhee popped into store to collect his cheque for £231.85. The  money will be used to buy a new strimmer.

Falmouth receives generous foodbank donation

We're regularly bowled over by the generosity of our customers who leave much-needed food for Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank in the trolley in our store – but the anonymous student who left £200 worth of supplies has left us totally overwhelmed! When I was making one of my regular checks I noticed our collection boxes were bursting with donations. When Jackie from the food bank called in to collect it my colleague Linda told us that a local student had come in with the latest food bank requirements list after their college won £200. Rather than to split the money between 40 students, they had made the decision to donate some much needed supplies. Sadly we don’t know who they are yet,  but it brought a tear to our eyes. Whoever you are, thank you – and thank you to everyone else who supports the food bank.
