Welcome to Asda Ystalyfera

Hello! My name is Sherry Cook and I am the Store Manager of your Asda store in Ystalyfera. You will find everything you need for your full weekly shop at great low prices and served with the unique Asda personality. We also offer our In Store Collection service which means you can order products from AsdaDirect.com or George.com, have them delivered to the store and then pick them up at your convenience, free of charge. I look forward along with all of our colleagues to welcoming you to the store.

This week we’ve been recognising our fantastic long-serving colleagues – like Pauline Brown, who’s worked at our Cramlington store for 45 years.

Pauline, front, with colleagues

Colleagues with more than 25 years of service got together at the Big Asda Anniversary to celebrate their commitment to our stores and customers.

Pauline has worked on the checkouts at the store since 1972 and has no plans to retire.

Two-year-old Leo Spavin can now join his mum and dad on their weekly shop at Asda Scunthorpe thanks to our GoTo Shop trolley.

Leo with Nikki and Chris

Leo has a rare genetic disorder and is cared for full-time by his mum Nikki, pictured above with Leo and her husband Chris.

Nikki said: “The trolley helps massively … I couldn’t do a big shop on my own before. In this trolley he is elevated and facing us, which means he’s much happier because he can see everything that’s going on!”

Happy 81st birthday to our lovely colleague Pat Walmsley who’s worked at Asda Pudsey since 1972!

Happy birthday Pat

Colleagues surprised her with two cakes to celebrate her special day and 45th anniversary at the store. Asda Pudsey manager Mark Dimbleby said: “Pat’s a fantastic colleague … she’s got the energy of a 20-year-old and is always happy and smiley.”

Pat has two children, Martin and Deborah, and granddaughter Rowena who’s 24. She worked as a tailor making raincoats before starting working on the deli at the old Pudsey store in 1972 – then moved across to the new store at Owlcotes Shopping Centre in 1997 where she now works in the bakery.

Colleagues at our Gillingham Pier store were really upset when they heard that thieves had stolen 72-year-old Rosemary Wimble’s collection of 21 Asda gnomes from her front garden.

Rosemary with her new family of gnomes

The gnomes were a great attraction in the local area and Rosemary felt sorry for all the children who regularly came round to see them.

Our colleagues invited her into the store this week – and she was delighted when they surprised her by handing over four giant gnomes to start a new collection.
