Brendan and Sally Black, who have been married for 62 years, celebrated Valentine’s Day at a romantic lunch and dance supported by our Belfast Westwood Community Champion Noeleen McMahon.

Noeleen with Brendan Black, 86, and Sally Black, 85

Good Morning Colin, a free community support service for older and vulnerable people, organised the event for around 100 people – which was put on with the help of a £500 grant from the Asda Foundation.

They invited people who use the service plus other elderly people from across Belfast to the event. All of the guests were presented with a chocolate rose on arrival – before enjoying a three-course meal and romantic dance.

More than 200 years later daffodils remain one of the nation’s favourite flowers and a popular gift for Mother’s Day.

Colin Martin has been growing daffodils for Asda for the past six years on his farm in Lincolnshire and sells 4.5 million bunches each year – that’s around 90 million daffodils!
