Asda colleagues from Warrington, Westbrook and Birchwood have been working hard to help Blue Apple House move into new premises – so we’re delighted that the Mayor of Warrington has declared their new home officially open!

At the opening of the new Blue Apple House charity premises

The charity supports veterans and their families in Warrington and the North West and has just moved to a more central location just across the road from Asda Warrington.

Community life champions Liz Cotterill and Cathy Robinson were invited along to the opening to run craft activities for the family fun day – and ended up organising tea and refreshments for 100 people on the day!

Community Retailer of the YearWe’re delighted to announce that we’ve been named as Community Retailer of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards for the third successive year.

The panel of judges were impressed by the impact our community-focused initiatives continue to have had on the local areas around our stores.

“It blows away the myth that independents do community work better than multiples,” said one judge. Another member of the panel said its community work was in line with what Asda’s parent company, Wal-Mart, is doing in America “to get communities to embrace the company rather than pushing it away”.

From Monday (5th October) we’re required by law to introduce a 5p charge for our plastic carrier bags that were previously free of charge.

Carrier bag charges

These charges apply to all major retailers – not just Asda – and are already in force in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

Some customers have asked for more information about how the charges will work – here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:

Do the new carrier bag charges apply to Home Shopping deliveries

You can avoid the carrier bag charges by checking the “no bags” option when you order. If you wish to have your shopping delivered in bags we will charge a flat fee of 40p.
