Hidden Heroes at Long Lane Garden Centre

Our Warrington, Westbrook and Birchwood community teams went along and helped to make Christmas decorations for Long Lane Garden Centre to sell to raise funds. Throughout 2016 the three stores have helped the charity by doing lots of volunteering and fundraising. Community Champion Liz said: "Our hidden heroes are the team at Long Lane, they work tirelessly to help create a safe space for the beneficiaries and we are proud to work along side them!"

Caroline is our Warrington store's third hidden hero

Community Champion Elizabeth Cotterill has chosen Caroline as her third Christmas hidden hero. Caroline runs a cookery class at Woolston Brook school and she got in touch with Elizabeth to ask for her help. Elizabeth offered to visit the children and do some activities with them from the school toolkit. Elizabeth said: "The children who attend Woolston Brook all have additional needs. Caroline was apprehensive as to whether they would respond to me teaching them but we like challenges and with Caroline's guidance we managed to run two days of healthy eating classes. We dressed up as bananas, played games and tried lots of new fruit including making yoghurt pots! Caroline is a true hidden community hero as she really goes out of her way to fill these children's hearts and minds with interesting and helpful skills for life."

Our Community Champion Liz chooses here Christmas Hidden Heroes

Majorie and Rita, are volunteers at our local Salvation Army centre and between them they've clocked up 30 years service. Our Community Champion Liz, who has worked with the two ladies for the past three years, nominated them for an Asda Christmas "Hidden Hero" award and presented them with their pin badges. Liz said: "They're amazing and certainly deserving of our Hidden Heroes awards! The ladies cried at the thought we'd thought of them and wore their badges straight away with pride! I'm so proud."

Poppy Appeal 2016

We've been proud to support the Poppy Appeal as always, including welcoming members of our community who have worked together to support the appeal. This year we've had the Locking Stumps Scouts, St Mary's Rainbows leaders, Beamont academy charity club – and my mum as well! Pictured here are student Amy, the regional Poppy Appeal coordinator Christine, Community Champion Liz and Josie, Beamont academy teacher and charity club organiser. Thank you so much for coming in store!
