Welcome to Asda Tonypandy

The store manager at Asda Tonypandy is Rea Bradshaw. If you need to contact the store for any reason, please use the phone number on the left.

Karen Thomas, Community Champion at our Tonypandy store, presented Asda Hidden Hero awards to two women who’ve worked tirelessly to get a local community centre reopened after it was closed because of budget cuts.

Lynne, Karen and Elizabeth

Karen volunteers at Canolfan Pentre every week – and she arranged for the Asda Foundation to pay for their first Christmas decorations and a party that brought together local people young and old.

The centre in the Rhondda Valley was closed three years ago along with the village primary school and library. But Elizabeth Williams and Lynne Holley managed to reopen it in February after a campaign to attract funding, including a grant from the Asda Foundation. It’s now well used, with events for the over 50s, mothers and toddlers and local youths taking place throughout the week.

The Asda Foundation is supporting grass roots sports clubs by giving grants of up to £2,000 to buy new kit and training equipment. We’ve had a great response from our stores’ local communities throughout the UK and have donated grants to more than 180 clubs so far totalling £163,814.

Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club

One of the clubs who received an Asda Foundation grant is the basketball team at Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club, CSWC Panthers, who used the money to buy home and away kits for their first and second teams. Asda Carlisle Community Champion Niki Iveson went along to watch their first game and said the new kit must have been a “good luck charm” as both teams won their games against St Helens Vikings.

Christmas Gift Appeal

Thank you to customers who've donated gifts for the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Santa Appeal. This batch of toys for children who need them was donated to local special learning centre volunteers by our store manager Rea.

Meet Olive Spink – the amazing 90-year-old Asda customer who does the shopping for “elderly” friends and neighbours who can’t shop for themselves.

Olive doing the shopping

Olive’s a regular visitor to our Wheatley store in Oxfordshire, calling in several times a week to pick up essentials for her friends. She says that staying so busy helps her keep young.

To thank Olive for everything that she does in the community, Asda community elf Angie Young and store manager Michael Turner presented her with a special hamper of Christmas goodies and a bunch of flowers – as well as an Asda Hidden Hero badge.
