Welcome to Asda Strood

The manager of your Asda Strood Supermarket is Casey Abbott. You'll find everything you need to do a full weekly shop at the same everyday low prices as our bigger stores. If you need to contact the store for any reason, please use the number on the left.

Here’s the wonderful 102-year-old Jean McCullagh enjoying her first visit to her local Asda in Larne after our colleague Catherine McCallion got to know her through a charity knitting group they both attend.

Jean and Catherine

Jean told Catherine, who’s the store’s Community Champion, she’d love to come in to shop in the store – so Catherine arranged a VIP visit.

Jean, who has five children and is a great-grandma, still lives independently but her mobility has been restricted after breaking her hip so she uses a wheelchair.

Jean thoroughly enjoyed her shopping trip and said: “It was lovely – I would love to come back again!”

Student Lizzie Brown has been inundated with recipe ideas on social media after she accidentally bought one kilo of chillies instead of just one single chilli.

The first year drama student at the University of East Anglia was putting together her Asda online shop and filled in ‘quantity’ for all of her items – apart from chillies.

She meant to buy one green chilli – but instead filled in ‘one’ in the weight category, meaning she ordered one kilogram of thin green chillies costing £4.10.

More of our hugely popular wonky veg boxes are due to arrive in selected stores today.
Wonky veg box

They’ve just been named Product of the Year for Healthy Food – voted for by UK consumers.

We’ve sold 120,000 boxes of the misshapen veg as part of our mission to cut food waste. They contain 5kg of fresh produce – carrots, potatoes, peppers, cucumber, cabbage, leeks, parsnips and onions – and at £3.50 per box they’re 30% cheaper than standard lines. The exact contents will depend on the season.

Asda customer Penelope posted a lovely message on Facebook thanking our Middlesbrough colleague Wendy for the way she calmed her little boy Junior when he was throwing a tantrum.

Wendy with Junior

Penelope said her shopping trip with Junior had turned into a real ordeal and she was dreading getting to the checkout with an unhappy toddler.

But 16-month-old Junior immediately calmed down when Wendy took him in her arms and entertained him as she scanned Penelope’s shopping.

Penelope, 26, said: “She was so good with him – she was just lovely. It genuinely meant the world to me to be given just a little helping hand.”
