We’ve reduced the price of folic acid from £1 to 40p for Mother’s Day as a little gift for expectant mums – like our colleague Natasha Strain.

We love a story with a happy ending. When colleagues at our Govan store found this lost teddy with a distinctive hearing aid we posted an appeal on Facebook to try to track down the owner.

Niko and his teddy

It belongs to four-year-old Niko Kruk – and he was reunited with it when his mum Magda, who’s a fan of Asda on Facebook, spotted the bear in her newsfeed.

The distinctive bear, which has a hearing aid, was lost in the Govan store shortly before Christmas. Colleagues looked after it and posted photos of it on their own social media accounts hoping its owner would come forward. When that didn’t work we put out our own appeal on Facebook, which had a fantastic response and was shared by more than 11,000 people. The post was spotted by Magda – and colleagues were able to reunite Niko with his bear later that day.

Our amazing colleague Amanda Patience combines saving lives in the fire service with working in the grocery department of our Wheatley store.

Amanda at work at Asda and her local fire station

Amanda carries a pager with her at all times, so when Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service need their Wheatley crew to answer an emergency she dashes out of the store to the fire station, which is only one minute’s drive away. She’s been given special allowance by the store management to combine the roles.

Amanda said: “I like working in the community, helping people and making a difference – which is why I trained up to be a member of the fire service.”

Here’s some good news for motorists – we’re cutting the price of unleaded petrol and diesel by up to 2p per litre.

We've cut the price of fuel

From tomorrow, customers at our 301 filling stations across the country will pay no more than 114.7p per litre on unleaded and 116.7p per litre on diesel.

The price drop follows a fall in wholesale fuel prices over the last week. In Asda’s latest Income Tracker Report vehicle fuel, one of the key essential items for consumers, has increased by 16.8% year on year, caused by a combination of currency movement and an increase in worldwide oil prices, along with a rise in inflation. The report shows that petrol prices had the largest impact on the rise of the cost of living for families.
