Colleagues plan charity cycle from London to Paris

Transport shift manager Adrian Miller and two transport colleagues from the Asda Distribution Centre in Skelmersdale are planning a charity bike ride this summer from London to Paris. They're raising money for the Institute of Cancer Research and we held an in-store collection for them.

Boxing coach Colin is a Hidden Hero

My last Hidden Hero award was awarded to Colin Day, head coach from Birch Green Boxing Club, for his outstanding contribution to the sport. He's given endless dedication to local kids giving his knowledge, experience and friendship to everyone who has attended this club over the last 30 years. Colin is a pure legend.

Thank you to Hidden Hero Peggy

My fourth local Hidden Hero is Peggy Nind who runs the pensioners' Sunshine group. She has run the group for the past 15 years and also volunteers for the local community centre on a Friday by cooking in the kitchen. Peggy is 88 years young and was very emotional when I presented her with a luxury hamper and her Hidden Hero badge whilst she was helping out at a children's Christmas party on Sunday 18th December.

Margaret is one of our Hidden Heroes

My third Hidden Hero in my local community is Margaret Highton, who works so hard out in the community to help other people. She gives her time from morning till night, running the local community centre where many different user groups go as well as running the foodbank from the centre. Here she is in the picture with our store manager Martin Halsall and some of her volunteers collecting in our store for the foodbank. She told me that the High Sheriff has nominated her to visit the Queen next year and she so deserves it for all the hard work that she does – she is the most selfless caring person I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

David loved shopping at Asda when he was a little boy and told his mum “When I grow up I want to work here” – and he’s fulfilled his dream.

David with Gladys

David, who’s deaf, got a work experience placement and then a full-time job at our Huddersfield store – and he’s hugely popular with colleagues and customers like 85-year-old Gladys Dorward (pictured above with David).

His mum, Adele Marsden, got in touch with us on Facebook to say how much David has enjoyed his time at the store.
