Stewart from Swale Stroke Group is a Hidden Hero

I was proud to present Stewart Kitching from Swale Stroke Group with a gift and Hidden Hero badge for all the dedicated hard work he does for the group and his local community. Stewart suffered a stroke eight years ago and works tirelessly to support others who have suffered strokes. He truly is a hero.

Dog organisation volunteers awarded Hidden Hero badges

It was fantastic to award Hidden Hero badges to Claire and Steve from Medical Detection Dogs. Both of these heroes volunteer tirelessly throughout the year for the charity - they truly are amazing.

Visiting Medical Detection Dogs

I had the great pleasure in visiting Medical Detection Dogs' headquarters to find out all about the charity. I volunteer frequently with Claire and her dog Pal in my local area. Pal is a fantastic dog who alerts Claire, who has type 1 Brittle Diabetes, when her sugar levels drop. He can detect the quick fall in her levels thus preventing her from going into a diabetic coma. The charity are amazing and these talented dogs save their owners' lives every day.

Asda customer Penelope posted a lovely message on Facebook thanking our Middlesbrough colleague Wendy for the way she calmed her little boy Junior when he was throwing a tantrum.

Wendy with Junior

Penelope said her shopping trip with Junior had turned into a real ordeal and she was dreading getting to the checkout with an unhappy toddler.

But 16-month-old Junior immediately calmed down when Wendy took him in her arms and entertained him as she scanned Penelope’s shopping.

Penelope, 26, said: “She was so good with him – she was just lovely. It genuinely meant the world to me to be given just a little helping hand.”
