We’ve got lots of Easter treats at our bakery counter in store, from traditional hot cross buns to bunny crumpets and Easter celebration cakes.

Hot cross buns

Our hot cross buns are baked fresh in store each day and the cross is piped on by hand. In-store baker Mark Oliver spent months getting the recipe just right – “Our buns are traditional, with subtle notes of cloves and cinnamon,” he said.

This year we’ve got two new varieties of Chosen by you hot cross buns: Double Chocolate or Caramel and White Chocolate at just 85p for a pack of four.

Ray Mellors celebrates his 90th birthday today making him our oldest Asda colleague – and he has no plans to retire just yet!

He still works two days a week in the grocery department of our Hyson Green store in Nottingham. Colleagues there held a surprise party for him on Friday, complete with 90 balloons, buffet lunch and a cake with 90 candles. Store manager Lyndsey Newmarch and Midlands senior director Mark Chilcott also presented him with birthday cards and presents.

Three colleagues from our Gravesend store have abseiled 200ft down a building to raise money for charity in memory of nine-year-old Stacey Mowle.

Stacey was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer in May 2010 and colleagues at our Gravesend store were hoping to raise £500,000 so she could have treatment in America.

They quickly showed support for the local star and held lots of fundraising activities, including a world record attempt to create the longest conga line through Gravesend town centre and a Gangnam Style flash dance.
