The Primrose Project receives Asda Foundation funding

The Primrose Project have received £500 from the Asda Foundation after winning our Green Token Giving vote. The charity supports parents who have tragically suffered a miscarriage or loss of a baby and this will help them buy and distribute memory boxes. A fantastic good cause that can continue its loving support with a little help.

Local group receive Asda Foundation donation

I surprised 28 children from Wonderful Things with a cheque for £200 after they finished runners up in Green Token Giving. Great news! Wonderful Things provides innovative extra-curricular activities to the children of Lancashire, delivered out of school hours, but within the safe environment of local primary schools.

Little Evan Matthews loved the limited edition Coco Pops Croc Prints so much colleagues at our Halifax store were determined to help when they heard how distraught he was when his mum found they’d been discontinued and she couldn’t get them for him.

Evan

Six-year-old Evan has autism and sensory problems that mean he likes routine and is reluctant to try anything new. So there were smiles all round when Kellogg’s responded to an appeal from the store’s community champion Amanda Clegg and managed to track down the last remaining boxes for him.

His mum Laura said: “Everyone’s been amazing in helping me to source some more boxes. We can’t thank Amanda, Asda and Kellogg’s enough.”

Alex and Helen-Louise outside the store

The store turned off the music, dimmed the lights and handed out maps of the store to make the shopping experience more comfortable for guests from Autism Together.

The store’s community champion Helen-Louise Sestan-Burton regularly helps the group and invited members including volunteer Alex, who’s autistic himself, to do their weekly shop during the trial.

Happy birthday to our oldest colleague Tom Brogan who’s 92 today!

Tom helps regular customer Margaret

Tom, a porter at our Wigan store, says he has no plans to retire as he loves meeting and helping regular customers like Margaret Barker, who had a stroke last year and needs a mobility scooter to get out and shop now.

Margaret, 66, said: “When I came back after my stroke everyone was really helpful but Tom stuck out. He always has a smile on his face and will do anything to help you – he’s such a nice gentleman. For 92 he’s unbelievable really.”
