Guide dogs

Our local guide dog walkers are regular visitors to the store and it was great to welcome their newest recruit and Ice, his puppy in training. We've had the privilege of welcoming three of the puppies to Asda Pwllheli over the last couple of years and they've all been trained and passed with distinctions and are with their new families and are helping them every day. We are all so happy to welcome them and join in with their training as it helps with all situations the guide dogs will have to deal with in their everyday life.

Float like a butterfly...

I had so much fun trying my hand at boxing when I was invited to the Llyn ABC boxing club to present their runners-up cheque for £200 from the latest in-store customer green token vote. They asked if I was game for a box, so into the ring I went! Here's me and Vic Barma from the boxing club. The money is going to go towards more equipment as it's run entirely by volunteers and there are so many members of all ages who use it. The club really helps keep everyone healthy, busy and happy.

Our large £1 Halloween pumpkins – which are in stores now – have been named best looking, best for carving and best value for money in a supermarket comparison by the Mirror.

Jack Skellington

And to encourage you to discover for yourself, we’re giving you the chance to win £50 if you share a photo of your creatively carved pumpkin … like this frightfully good Pumpkin King carved by 13-year-old Faith.

Faith’s aunt Lisa bought one large and one 50p medium pumpkin at her local Asda Living in Oldham – as well as two pumpkin carving kits, which are just £1 each.

Asda customer Jen Goodhand took to Facebook to praise one of our colleagues for the professional way she helped her son Oscar when he went into a panic on a trip to our Redditch store.

Jen, Oscar and Emma

Jen said Emma Sanders “showed a level of care and understanding that we rarely see outside of family”.

Ten-year-old Oscar, who’s on the autistic spectrum, became very distressed after seeing a giant Halloween skeleton at the front of the store. Emma, who’s 23 and works in the George department, came to his aid and asked him what kind of things he liked.

When he said he was a fan of Star Wars she picked up a pair of Star Wars pyjamas and asked him to talk her through the different characters – and Oscar started to calm down.

A huge well done to the 200 colleagues from our 28 stores across Manchester who teamed up for an epic 100-mile walking relay to raise money for Tickled Pink.

The team approach the finishing line at Rivington Pike

The four-day relay, which took in every one of the stores on route, was the idea of Asda Harpurhey’s General Store Manager Andy Rae as a way of everyone coming together to mark our breast cancer charity campaign’s 20th anniversary.
