Welcome to Asda Nuneaton

Mike Phillips My name is Gary Brown and I am the Store Manager at Nuneaton. I am really looking forward to supporting some great community based charities and meeting some fantastic volunteers to offer support in our local community.

Our #cakemyday team turned up with treats and a cheque for £10,000 when they called in at an equestrian centre which helps disabled people learn to ride.

Riders and volunteers with the cheque and cakes

The Asda Foundation grant will help Nuneaton and North Warwickshire Equestrian, Horse Therapy and Disabled Riding Schools and Pony Club install new security gates to provide riders with a safer place to ride.
The riding centre provides lessons to around 120 people of all ages, abilities and disabilities each week to help with co-ordination, balance and confidence.

To celebrate National Burger Day we’ve teamed up with a leading chef and flavour researcher to find out what makes the perfectly balanced burger.

The perfectly balanced burger

Charles Michel, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and is Chef-in-Residence and researcher on flavour perception at Oxford University’s Crossmodal Research Laboratory, says the perfect burger should be 7cm tall and feature nine layers.

Magic ingredients include soy sauce, Serrano ham, camembert and Chipotle sauce, while ketchup should be spread right to the edge of the bun, not dolloped in the middle.

Louise at work

Louise and her team came up with the idea for teaming much-loved biscuits with ice cream for a tasty summer snack. Our Bourbon Biscuit and Custard Cream ice creams have been flying off the shelves this summer – and it sounds like there may be more to come.

Louise said: “Not only do they bring back fond memories but they also differ from the standard choc ice or cone. We’re already being asked to develop new biscuit-themed flavours!”

We're supporting Love Food, Hate Waste

Research shows that more than four million tonnes of food that could have been eaten is thrown away each year, costing families an average of £60 per month.

So we’re supporting the Love Food, Hate Waste charity, which aims to help people reduce the amount of food they waste and save money.

We’ve teamed up with TV chef Richard Fox to show families how to create quick and tasty meals that combat fussy eating and reduce food waste.

Richard Fox

Richard will be creating a series of videos showing tips, suggestions and recipe ideas with us in the next few weeks.

He said: “Having spent the last five years touring the country, inspiring people with my live cookery demonstrations to effortlessly create delicious dishes in minutes, I am relishing the opportunity to do the same exclusively for Asda customers. It’s all about value, ease and taste. I love it!”

Richard is a leading campaigner and official ambassador for the Love Food, Hate Waste charity, which is helping people reduce the amount of food they waste – and save money in the process.
