Middleton Elderly

The Asda Cake My Day team called in to share cake and a cuppa with some of the local people who use the Middleton Elderly centre in Leeds.

They presented the team who run the centre with an Asda Foundation cheque for £8,000 to help towards the refurbishment of a new day centre.

The Middleton Elderly group, which has more than 700 members, works to promote independence and healthy living among the over 60s in the area, and runs all sorts of activities and classes – from IT lessons to hot lunches and weekly baking sessions.

Thank you to all our wonderful customers and colleagues who’ve been helping to put big smiles on people’s faces with our #cakemyday 50th birthday celebrations.

Our Cake My Day team have been visiting some of the local community groups we support up and down the country – and sharing cake with hundreds of people on the way.

A limo might be the most popular method of transport when it comes to travelling to the school prom in style but James Corker had a much better way to turn heads – he arrived for his prom night in an Asda lorry!

James and the Asda lorry

Our colleagues look forward to him popping in to look at the vehicles and help out – so when they heard his school prom was coming up they decided there was only one way for him to get there!

Community Life Volunteering badge

She came up with the idea for the Community Life Volunteering badge after children at the group asked her about the work she does to support local good causes and how they could help her.

When we asked our Facebook fans to nominate people for a #cakemyday surprise, five-year-old Jack’s mum told us about her brave little boy who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour but “never complains about it”.

Jack gets a special treat

Mum Louise told us Jack’s a huge fan of Minions – so our #cakemyday team packed a Minions cake and Minions goodies into their campervan and headed to his home in Southampton.

Louise said Jack had decided he wanted to wear a Christmas jumper that morning – so the #cakemyday team felt like summertime Santas when he opened the door and greeted them with one word: “Minions!”
