Our Home shopping colleagues often deliver to holiday destinations – but turning up to a scout camp in the middle of a field was a first for driver Tony Seager!

Scout camp delivery

The 10th Frome Scout group lived up to the Scout motto “Be prepared” when they placed their online order in advance of their camp last weekend. They ordered BBQ meat, rolls and other camp essentials for 86 to be delivered on Friday to their mess tent door! They were taking part in a District camp with 400 beavers, cubs and scouts at West Woodlands show field just outside Frome.

Scout leader Clare Ibbitson shared the photo of the delivery on Twitter and said they were delighted with the service they received.

“The driver was exceptionally polite and interacted with the Holstein who were helping unload the shopping!” said Clare.

Tour Makers

Thousands of volunteers recruited, trained and equipped by Asda are taking to the streets as Tour Makers for the Grand Départ of the Tour de France.

After an extensive training programme, our army of Tour Makers will be stationed all along the 540km of race route over three exciting days of racing to welcome visitors and look after spectators.

It’s the first time a mass volunteer programme has been laid on for the Tour de France and we’re proud to have played a part in making it happen.

Tour Makers will be carrying out a range of duties during Stages 1, 2 and 3 of this year’s tour, which starts in Leeds on Saturday (July 5), serving as Wayfinders, Crossing Marshals and even Flag Marshals – who will be right in the thick of the action to warn riders about hazards in the road.

Tour Maker and keen cyclist Oli Shaw, from Otley near Leeds, said: "I’ve been watching the Tour for about the last twenty years. I used to go on holiday with my family to France every summer and watching the Tour was an enjoyable aperitif.

“When I found out it was coming to Yorkshire it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss to get as close as possible to the race and try to ensure that the Grand Départ is a huge success.”

Tour Makers have already been heavily involved in the build up to the Grand Départ. A choir of Tour Maker volunteers has even recorded a version of the official theme song ‘The Road’.

Thanks to everyone who’s volunteered to be a Tour Maker – we hope you have a wonderful weekend and create some memories that last a lifetime!
