No Walls Gardens helping vulnerable people in our local area

Our Community Champion Christine has been helping at tree planting event organised by No Walls Gardens, a not-for-profit community organisation. No Walls Gardens teaches gardening and landscaping skills to volunteers who include ex-offenders, disabled persons, long-term unemployed and recovering addicts of all ages. The projects are designed to help them engage with their local community, give them valuable life and work skills and help them avoid re-offending or relapsing by encouraging them to be part of something bigger. Christine said: "Today was a special event where the were planting trees and had a local singer performing. The volunteers here really provide a worthwhile service to our community."

Choir from Lawn Primary bag packing so they can attend event

On Saturday 19th November we welcomed Lawn Primary School who were bag packing to raise money for their travel costs to the O2 Choir competition. After the event our Community Champion Christine received a lovely message from music teacher Pauline Goodall: "I just wanted to say a huge thank you for letting us come to your store today. The choir really enjoyed themselves and were all made to feel welcome by the staff at Asda. They loved having their own special room to have their lunch together! We raised a total of £902 which was an amazing amount for only four hours. The children now have enough money for their travel to the O2 and to buy their special O2 T shirts for the event." Christine said: "It's such a lovely feeling knowing we have helped our local community."

Wonky veg box

They’ve just been named Product of the Year for Healthy Food – voted for by UK consumers.

We’ve sold 120,000 boxes of the misshapen veg as part of our mission to cut food waste. They contain 5kg of fresh produce – carrots, potatoes, peppers, cucumber, cabbage, leeks, parsnips and onions – and at £3.50 per box they’re 30% cheaper than standard lines. The exact contents will depend on the season.
