Welcome to Asda Falmouth

Alex Allan Hi I'm Alex, the manager of your Falmouth store. I've worked for ASDA for 15 years, starting with a part time job from school and loved it ever since. I have had various roles over the years but I'm incredibly proud to be leading the team at Penryn. I have already met some great customers and am looking forward to getting out and involved in our local community.

William Mead's parents are Hidden heroes

William Mead was one when he lost his life to Sepsis. His life could have been saved had the right advice been given to his parents. His mum and dad Melissa and Paul have been campaigning tirelessly since, sharing his story so that more awareness is raised and lives are saved. Through a massive social media following and many trips to London for interviews, William is now known across the world. I had the pleasure of meeting this amazing woman and presenting her with this certificate and badge. She shared her story with myself and Alex, our store manager, and what an emotional and incredible story it was. She's chosen not to focus on the negative but to encourage the positive. The whole family now have a Hidden Hero badge.

Tanya's Trust team are Hidden Heroes

I presented Hidden Heroes badges to two lovely people at the Penryn branch of Tanya's Trust charity shop. The manager Michelle is an ex-colleague and works with tirelessly for this cause since she lost her daughter, Sasha, also an ASDA colleague here in Falmouth. They even have their own Santa grotto in the shop!

Here’s the wonderful 102-year-old Jean McCullagh enjoying her first visit to her local Asda in Larne after our colleague Catherine McCallion got to know her through a charity knitting group they both attend.

Jean and Catherine

Jean told Catherine, who’s the store’s Community Champion, she’d love to come in to shop in the store – so Catherine arranged a VIP visit.

Jean, who has five children and is a great-grandma, still lives independently but her mobility has been restricted after breaking her hip so she uses a wheelchair.

Jean thoroughly enjoyed her shopping trip and said: “It was lovely – I would love to come back again!”

Student Lizzie Brown has been inundated with recipe ideas on social media after she accidentally bought one kilo of chillies instead of just one single chilli.

The first year drama student at the University of East Anglia was putting together her Asda online shop and filled in ‘quantity’ for all of her items – apart from chillies.

She meant to buy one green chilli – but instead filled in ‘one’ in the weight category, meaning she ordered one kilogram of thin green chillies costing £4.10.

More of our hugely popular wonky veg boxes are due to arrive in selected stores today.
Wonky veg box

They’ve just been named Product of the Year for Healthy Food – voted for by UK consumers.

We’ve sold 120,000 boxes of the misshapen veg as part of our mission to cut food waste. They contain 5kg of fresh produce – carrots, potatoes, peppers, cucumber, cabbage, leeks, parsnips and onions – and at £3.50 per box they’re 30% cheaper than standard lines. The exact contents will depend on the season.
