Asda Darlington's Christmas Gift Appeal

Our Darlington store Christmas Gift Appeal is supporting Darlington Toy Appeal co-ordinated by The Salvation Army Darlington Citadel which provides over 500 families in the area with gifts and hampers. Once the toys are handed in at the Citadel, volunteers sort them into age groups, then the toys are made up into family specific bags for the agencies to deliver and are wrapped by the families when they receive them. Community Champion Louise went along to help sort the toys and took Hidden Heroes badges and goodies for the volunteers.

Asda Foundation grant boosts church volunteers

Harrowgate Hill Methodist Church Lunch Club hosted a Christmas meal for local residents on Saturday 10th December. The Asda Foundation supported them with a local impact grant of £465. I helped out the volunteer team by setting up beforehand and serving the meal and also surprised them with Hidden Heroes badges recognising all the hard work they do in the local community. I chatted to some of the residents such as 100-year-old Viv Johnson who enjoys the company the club provides.

Hidden Heroes in store

I surprised All Saints and Salutation Church Hand Bell Ringers with a Hidden Heroes donation of mince pies and fairy lights when they came to store to play Christmas carols. They were joined by collectors from Darlington Talking Newspaper, their chosen local charity for this year and were even brave enough to let me join in! The Hidden Heroes award is to say thank you for the fundraising they do in our local community every year and the lights will be used to decorate their music board.

Scouts raising money for camping equipment by bag packing

We welcomed 5th Darlington Scout Group from St.Mary's in Cockerton into store – one of the oldest scout groups in the town. They were bag packing for our customers to raise funds for more camping equipment so that all their members can take part in future adventures.
