James Martin has announced a new partnership with Asda

Asda’s Chief Executive Officer Andy Clarke got in touch with James to see if he’d like to work with us after getting his number from a mutual acquaintance, Yorkshire-based chef James Mackenzie.

James had a look around his local Asda store and liked the friendliness of our colleagues and the freshness of our meat, veg and fish. He also realised that his Manchester restaurant gets its Wagyu beef from the same supplier that Asda does!

An Asda Living Store in Manchester has introduced a Saturday morning “Quiet Hour” to help customers with autism after an idea from manager Simon Lea.

Starting on 7th May, he will be opening the store in Cheetham Hill an hour early to trial a “Quiet Hour” for customers who may be disturbed by loud noise.

From 8am to 9am there will be no in-store music or tannoy announcements and the televisions and escalators will be turned off. Colleagues will also be handing out maps of the store featuring pictures instead of words.

When Asda colleague Emily Kellett took the time to chat to a stranger she didn’t realise her chance encounter would touch so many people.

Emily, who is a Mental Health Ambassador at Asda, bumped into 86-year-old Patrick in Leeds city centre and they started chatting. When Patrick asked Emily if she had time for a coffee she said she did – and they ended up spending two hours chatting together.

Afterwards Emily posted on LinkedIn about their chance meeting, saying: "This is Patrick. He is 86 and he stopped me in Leeds yesterday to ask me how my day was. He then asked if by any chance I had time for a coffee. Meetings cancelled – I spent 2 hours with the most wonderful man.
