Our Bideford store’s pharmacist Sarah Grant has been presented with an award by Asda Chief Executive Officer Sean Clarke after she diagnosed a family with gas poisoning.

Customer Sarah Evans and her family had been feeling unwell for six weeks, so came into the store’s pharmacy to collect a prescription. But when Sarah asked more questions it became clear that something else was wrong. She suspected carbon monoxide poisoning – and a gas leak was later discovered from their kitchen hob.

A project to help people discover and celebrate the history of Brunswick Wharf in Bideford has been boosted by a donation from the Asda Foundation.

Asda Bideford store manager Rob Samson presented a cheque for £320 to Bideford Bay Creatives, who are running the project.

The End of Year Wharfs Project Celebration has been going on for the last year, with Bideford Bay Creatives compiling historical data about the old Bideford Wharfs.

Asda Bideford pharmacist visits baby clinic to give tips to mums

Our Community Champion Peter and Asda Bideford Pharmacist Sarah visited Bideford Bay Children's Centre to pass on tips about how to keep babies and young children healthy. Sarah talked to parents about the services on offer at the pharmacy while Peter hosted a fruit tasting session for parents and children.

St Mary's children enjoy healthy eating classes with "Asda man"

Asda Bideford Community Champion Peter dressed up as "Asda man" to visit both year two classes at St. Mary's School. He was talking to the children about healthy eating and leading a tasting session for the kids to try different fruit and vegetables. They sampled Avocado, Beetroot, Blueberries, Clementines, Cucumber, Lychees, Melon, Passion Fruit, Pineapple, Raspberries, Red Pepper & Sharon Fruit. The activity was popular with the children.

Eight-year-old Laurie Cannon came up with a great way to say thank you to her mum Danielle who works at our Birkenhead store – she offered to become “boss” for the day so Danielle could put her feet up.

Laurie started off by holding a management meeting, then made sure the fruit and veg sections were stocked with her favourite foods. She checked the flowers – ensuring everything looked pretty for the other children who were buying their mum a present – and also took phone calls and helped out customers, checking they had everything they needed.

Danielle, who manages the George and general merchandise ranges in the store, said: "She loved it – she wanted to come back again the next day. She even made sure she dressed the same as me!
